Celtic Women/ Shangcce: Scarborough Fair

I really like this song! The version sung by Celtic Women is best. I would love to see them sing live one day.

Another version is by this Youtuber: Shangcce. He looks so much like my dad that I had to click on his link. He sings songs while playing a ukulele. =) I ended up listening to his other videos as background music. He sang songs I grew up to, which was sweet.

March 16 1986
Thats my mom. =) She was so cute. At one point she had the Farrah Charlie's Angel hairstyle too. She even went through the horrible perm phase.

Mom and dad on their wedding day. My dad found one of their invitations from way back. It still looks very new and shiny =).

For their holiday gift, I made them a photobook from The photos are printed as pages of a book. I made a story timeline for them too! I really hope they like them. Since they lost the films for their old photos, I took pictures of the pictures. The result was pretty good, better than scanning (and faster). I can't wait to give it to them!

2011 Birthday/Christmas wishlist

Its the time of the year again: THE WISHLIST OF 2011 (for 2012)

I have been very nervous about my cosmetology test date! It has been almost five months and I still haven't been assigned a test date. My classmates who did take the newest test had failed the written portion. So, starting tomorrow I will make myself read the entire book! At least one hour a day will be reserved to read the text book. I really want to pass the entire test on my first try and get my license! Which is why number ONE of my wishlist will be:

[one] get my cosmeotology test date!
[two] pass my cosmeotology test the first time.. get my license!!! I hope!
[three] get a job that makes at least $20bucks an hour.. (tips included is ok ^__^)
[four] buy my own car! preferably a used highlander for starters
[five] have a Christmas tree for 2012! =) I don't have the money to buy one this holiday..
[six] start up Floristry by Alisa for weddings and large events that needs lots of flowers! San Francisco residents only please. I am very affordable, guarantee! I have been building up my credentials and have enough samples of my work to display for the public now.
[seven] take my parents to Vietnam for vacation. They deserve it and I want to give it to them.
[eight] get back into tiptop shape! I gained weight in the last four years and I need to get rid of them! So far, I have been a good gym rat, but I love to eat! ^_^ The progress is slow, but at least there is progress!
[nine] I want a burrito. Craving for one atm.
[ten] get Lo to go bald! (kidding)

Quynh + Alex's Wedding flowers contin. =)

The groom's boutonniere. I did this few minutes before meeting them up because I wanted it to stay fresh and lively for as long as possible. Once cut and taped, the flowers wouldn't get any water and wilts slowly. I was unsure what to do at first. I initially saved some hypericum to highlight the rose, but I thought it didn't flow well with the bride's bouquet. For great sacrifice, I cut up my beads for a better accent because just the flowers alone didn't do much. It lasted from 12pm to night time's reception dinner!

rose, peach colored
hydrangea, green
golden beads

Quynh's bouquet at the restaurant. My camera phone doesn't take very good pictures, but I wanted to show how the spider chrysanthemum looks like in the bouquet. Overnight, it blossomed even more! Look at her tiny arm compared to the bouquet.. The restaurant was very pink so my camera's lighting was affected.

We only were able to stay for an hour to set up and wait for guests. Lo's mom wanted to go to a family buffet so we left early for her. Turned out, she changed her mind and was not happy at us for the time constraints. So, for Thanksgiving, Lo and I had our dinner at Jack in the Box. We were both wearing formal clothing too.

One of seven centerpieces at the restaurant. Their reception was an Asian buffet so the centerpieces were moved when the food came out. At least it looked nice when the guests arrived =). Lo and I were lucky to eat the fried crabclaw stuffed shrimp! We had to go when the lobsters came out.. boooooo!!!!

Lo and I attended their ceremony at church in the morning. It was a bit awkward for us because neither of us are religious. However, it was fun and insightful. The Father made a very good point and that stuck with me. He said there are two words that makes a marriage work and made everyone in the wedding party answer. No one got it right. He then told us all to just go home (kidding of course). The answer was: For/With. He explained that for a marriage to work, one must live FOR the other and live WITH (alongside) them. One can say they love the other, but if you still continue to live for yourself, it won't work for long. When one marries another, one is saying that their life has no meaning without the other. The same perspective should be the same for the other person.

Quynh was so beautiful in her white wedding dress! SO BEAUTIFUL! =) Alex was also dashing too! I wished she wore that at the reception as well as her ao dai! Asian wedding customs intends for brides to change dresses multiple times during the reception dinner. Ah well.

I hope Quynh and Alex had a great time! =) I wished Lo's mom would have told us before we left that she changed her mind.. Hope Quynh would post the the pictures soon! I need to steal the ones that include Lo and myself for our next scrapbook. =)

Gobble Gobble

Quynh + Alex's wedding flowers!

Quynh's bridal bouquet! Making this made my arm sore because it was freaking heavy! Tons of pretty flowers in there with no fillers! I love the color combo. This thing makes me happy looking at it. =) Bride and groom approved! Cheers! I think it's as big as a basketball; that was the size she wanted. ^__^

Roses (assorted colors)
Spider Chrysanthemum

Reception table arrangement. I don't even know how many roses there are, but at least 20! This beauty would cost over $150 retail. I did this three times because I didn't like how it looked. The rose's thorns were a painful nuisance.

Roses (assorted colors)
Baby's breath

I had alot of baby's breath left over so decided to utilized them into four flower girl's mini bouquets. The bouquets are simple, but cute for the four little girls to hold without deterring attention from the bride. This would be less messier than having them toss petals down the aisle. Who cleans up all that after the wedding? I think its time consuming and tedious if we, the wedding party have to..

The bride's maid bouquet is alot smaller than the bride's. I wanted them to look similar, but not special because its all about the bride!

Spider Chrysanthemum
Roses (assorted colors)

There are also their centerpieces, but I haven't gotten a picture of those yet. I will edit when I do. =)

I like SkullCandy headphones because they have lifetime warranty! Though I would like to replace their skulls with other images (Hello Kitty), it does look pretty sleek. They are like Tweezerman, lasts forever ^__^

They have many other different style designs and colors to choose from. I do like the bigger ones, but I won't actually wear them in public... They are reminiscent of an older time. =)

Rihanna- We Found Love

  Rihanna- We Found Love

This music video is pretty cool. The song is nice too, though it repeats the same things over, lacking much content. Listen to the narration and then you'll understand why you see all the drug usage and such. You would initially think that Rihanna is promoting smoking, drinking and drug usage, BUT she isn't! At the end of the video, you would see the result of such a lifestyle. It looked worn, ugly and tragic.

I got the lyrics from

"We Found Love"
(feat. Calvin Harris)

It's like you're screaming, and no one can hear
You almost feel ashamed
That someone could be that important
That without them, you feel like nothing
No one will ever understand how much it hurts
You feel hopeless; like nothing can save you
And when it's over, and it's gone
You almost wish that you could have all that bad stuff back
So that you could have the good

Yellow diamonds in the light
Now we’re standing side by side
As your shadow crosses mine
What it takes to come alive

It’s the way I’m feeling I just can’t deny
But I’ve gotta let it go

We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place

Shine a light through an open door
Love a life I will divide
Turn away 'cause I need you more
Feel the heartbeat in my mind

It’s the way I’m feeling I just can’t deny
But I’ve gotta let it go

We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place

Yellow diamonds in the light
Now we’re standing side by side
As your shadow crosses mine

We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place

We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place

Move Recommendation: In Time

In Time

Starring Amanda Seyfried and Justin Timberlake.
I liked this movie. The concept of one's lifespan used as currency was intriguing. The acting was pretty good. This isn't a bloodbath kind of movie and I did not get why Amanda's character, Slyvia has a really bold and blunt red haircut. It doesn't suit her and distracted from their acting. I suppose they wanted to show her character was from the metropolitan where things are sleek and modern there.

I liked this movie better than Inception. Had Leonardo DiCaprio played Will Salas instead of Justin, I think the movie would have been alot better. I liked Justin, but he's definitely not in the same league; he is getting better though.

There are some loop holes and unfinished story telling in the movie, but overall, it was good.

Its almost Winter

I am excited for the holidays to start! The lights, the mint hot chocolates and the beautiful songs around the city couldn't come any faster. Christina Aguilera has always been my favorite singer since hearing Mulan's theme song: Reflection. She has amazing talent and I hope she continues bringing amazing music into the world.

Love Doctor + Fairy, Fairy + Ghost
Alex sure looks like a ghost here. He looks a bit transparent, cool =) This one house had this big cat from Alice in Wonderland. Neato

All of us, except for Alex, didn't spend money for our Halloween costumes. Quynh did buy our eye lashes and those dresses were mine. Kristine loaned us fairy wings and our bags were in my closet begging to be filled with candy.

Lo's costume was my lab coat and the stethoscope was real. He also had two fake injection needles that mom brought home long ago. Being pack rats comes in handy sometimes.

We had a great time trick-or-treating! I haven't gone out for Halloween in years so it was such an awesome night! Purple Kow's milk tea was great after walking lots. We didn't even wait long that  night.

Until next year!

Tip: Natural riddance of dandruff

For those with dandruff problems and want a more natural approach to tackle it, use lemon juice! This method is cheaper than buying medicated shampoo because even organic lemons are less than a dollar a piece. Massage the lemon juice into your scalp for five minutes then rinse it off. Do this every other day until dandruff is no more.

This method is easier on men because of their shorter hairs. If you feel that you have to shampoo your hair right after using lemon juice, use mild shampoo. Harsh shampoos will make the process of restoring health longer. It also helps to not use excessively hot water. Lo has this problem. He only showers in really hot water, thus his dandruff.

Lo as a SIM! =)

Sims 3 didn't have the hair style like Lo's, but I tried. I did this without looking at a picture for guidance. I think I nailed it =)

Tip: Natural way to lighter hair for brunettes

If you are looking for natural ingredients, try using chamomile tea with a squeeze of lemon mixture. The tea should be warm to your heat comforts. Let the tea soak into your hair for 30 minutes (the time depends on you actually, but 30 minutes is standard for this trick). For better overall results, put a shower cap over your head for the heat of your scalp to aid the process.

My mentor told me this trick and I have been aching to try it out for myself, but I love my hair color now.

Using only lemon juice is another method to lighter hair. Use a shower cap for this one because heat is important here!

Shanghai soup dumplings

I AM CRAVING FOR SHANGHAI SOUP DUMPLINGS [again]!!!!! also known as Xiao Long Bao! =) YUMMY YUMMY!

This Saturday, I will make Lo take me again! =) We went to Shanghai Dumpling King a few days ago to try out the place. I liked it, but Lo thought the soup was too sweet. The place is really not about ambiance and that's okay with me. It was cheap cheap cheap! For $5.50, we got 10 of dumplings. Lo and I also ordered three more items, total of four items. The entire meal was less than $25 and we had leftovers to take home.

What to expect:
1. The dough of the dumpling should be thin, but thick enough to hold the meat and soup inside.
2. The soup should be hot and fill at least half of the insides.
3. The meat inside is to add subtle flavor, but the star of the dumpling is the broth inside.

How to eat a Shanghai soup dumpling:
1. Be extra careful and use your chopsticks to separate the dumpling from the napa cabbage.
2. Have a soup spoon ready to scoop up the dumpling carefully!
3. (optional) add vinegar. I like to bite the top of the dumpling and use another spoon to pour some vinegar inside before I eat. This method blended the flavors very well. This also may be why Lo found it too sweet, because he didn't eat it like I did.
4. Ideally, the entire dumpling is supposed to be eaten in one bite (like sushi), but this place made them larger than my mouth. No complaints there.

Their combination fried rice was pretty good too. The entire restaurant really reminded me of China's local food stops: cramped, old, but focuses on good old fashioned foods.

This was their dessert! Sugar egg puffs was surprisingly good. It was subtle in taste, but in a good way. The donut was made fresh upon order (hot) and it wasn't too thick, nor too light. It had the right quantity of egg custard inside. The sugar coating made each bite crispy.

Tip: gradually lighter hair for brunettes

Yeah yeah yeah, the product says its for blonde hairs, but brunettes could use it too. I have been using this for a few months and I can honestly say, it works! There are no harsh chemicals like peroxide and the process will take place over the days and weeks of usage as oppose to mere minutes. This tip isn't for those with gray hairs because there is no coverage. This process is mostly for those who want to go lighter, but not so much AND for those who do not want a fast and dramatic change.

Being of virgin hair (no chemical dyes), I wanted to go lighter but stick to my natural hues. I love my reddish/brown undertones (the color of your hair under the sun is usually your undertone) and want to bring that out more. My hair is black otherwise. I opted to use John Frieda's Go Blonder Lightning shampoo and conditioner to bring out my desired color.

At the beginning of my experiment, I would lather the shampoo into my hair and leave it there for a short while (five minutes). Just like the process of any chemical dyes, this product reacts to heat. The heat from the scalp is best. So if you have long hair like I do, try to put all your hair on top of your head to get that heat too. I washed my hair everyday and by the end of my third (or was it forth?) day of usage, my hair was noticeably lighter. Over the course of weeks, I used this product interchangeably with protein filled shampoos because like any lightener, it takes away color from  your original hair. So by using protein rich shampoos, I was putting back nutrients to preserve my hair.

Now months into this experiment, I only use the shampoo every other week. I have reached the color I love (AND its my natural undertones!). To prevent over lightening, I only put the product on the new growth and let it sit for a few minutes and use another shampoo for the rest of my hair. This method will help reduce split ends from over using the product. Everyone's hair is different so judge your hair base on what you see and feel. Is it thick? Is it course? Is it thin? My hair is thin so the product works more quickly because it has less to deal with.

The John Frieda conditioner works best with this product.

Moving my room around again! >] evil me! Poor sweet Lo, poor poor fellow! He moved my bed for today. Next week, we will move the bookcase and the desk. All the furnitures in my room are heavy! I have put him under this evil situation many times since we dated. My bed is now back to when I first had it. BAHAHHA

Changing my room is kinda exciting for me. Its like a new atmosphere. Plus, it forces me to clean up all the junk that accumulates over the months of hoarding. Then again, I hoard everything in general. I am trying to break this bad habit. I will post up before and after pictures next week. =)

Moods of rain

Its raining now. This is the best time to stay home with Lo and watch How I Met Your Mother shows while munching on Thai food takeout, whilst cuddled in the comfy couch. Won't happen because he lives elsewhere and has midterms to study for. He goes to school at 9am and ends his last class at 9pm. Bummer

Of all the foods in the world, I love Thai food!

Chinese Zodiac: Horse Babies

1930 1942 1954 1966 1978 1990 2002 2014

Horse babies are passionate, independent, strong minded and fast learners. That being said, they are also stubborn and do not like restrictions. At a young age, they should be taught discipline to help with their tempers. These babies will keep you entertained.

Metal Horse (1930, 1990, 2050): This horse is more stubborn than the other types and does not like routine. New experiences and challenges keeps this horse going. This horse is also the most popular of the rest.

Water Horse (1942, 2002, 2062): This horse adapts to changes well; he is the one creating the changes after all. He will have a great sense of humor and is fashionable.

Wood Horse (1954, 2014): "Out with the old, in with the new" is this horse's mantra. Wood horses can work in teams but will not like to be oppressed.

Fire Horse (1966, 2026): Looks and brains, this horse has it all. Like fire, he will be a force of energy that engulfs his pursuits.

Earth Horse (1918, 1978, 2038): This horse is more cautious and makes decisions slower than the other impulsive horses. He is more responsible.

Durabbit =)

Guess who recently lost his two front bunny teeth?! ^___^ HAHAHAH CUTE!!! Durango!! =)

Its so hot today! San Francisco is around 90's degrees! I fear a big earthquake is coming. I really hope not! My stock of water bottles is low at the mo.

Friday, September 23, 2011

Oh yeah, like the new template? My old one was not showing properly so I decided to use this one. I like it; it has a neutral and homely feel to it.

Love+Friendships and cake!

Thanks Quynh and Alex!
I am a GREAT sucker for cakes! When in my most foulest of moods or darkest hours, a gift of cake or milk tea would flip me a 180. =)

Hang, Lisa and I

We were at the Elephant bar. =) Us girls haven't hung out all together since high school! If only Rowella were still here, then it would really be complete. They have grown up so beautifully. I knew Hang since kindergarten and Lisa since middle school. =)

I must take Lo to the restaurant some day for a dinner.

Meuy and I!
It was my first time wearing a poncho and boots! My feet were aching so much after 7 hours of walking around. Most of the time was spent chatting while window shopping. Downtown was filled with weirdos that day: bums lighting cigs inside Macys and yelling at customers, an assault in Union Square that led to detainment, offensive panhandlers who demanded our bags of cake... We did not let that interfere with our catching up time. No siree!

Meuy's boyfriend works in the chocolate factory!!! OMGGG What a heavenly job! If Lo can bake and decorate cakes for a living, I would never let him go! Yum yum

Recommendation: Boys Over Flowers

Boys Over Flowers

I am currently watching this Korean tv drama! There are 25 episodes total; each episode is an hour average. Its about the four heirs, also known as F4. They are high school seniors and have it all: money, looks, brains and friendship. However, they are bored out of their minds and bully others for entertainment. Things become "interesting" when a girl of lower background comes into their lives. Like MOST Korean dramas, there is sooooo much lagging and going in circles of their love problems. I suppose it touches into the school girl's fantasy that the most desirable guy falls for a plain Jane. [This is the reason why the Twilight series was so successful.]

I recommend this if you have time to watch. Netflix has it available for streaming =) SCORE! I am on the 18th episode and I hope it has a happy ending.

Tip: Picking out the perfect glasses

If your face is squared shape, choose a round pair of glasses.
If your face is round shape, choose a squared pair of glasses.

The idea is to aim towards the preferred oval facial shape. Picking the countering glasses pair will create an illusion of just that.

HELLO HELLO HELLO! My laptop broke completely so I was not able to post. Lo just setup my new PC! I am back to the regular old PC. It is huge compared to my simple laptop. However, this thing is great for movie watching! My screen is 22 inches long. Lo built this monster all on his own! Thank you lots!!!!!! Love you!

It has neon green lights. Will be pretty cool at night =).

My desk was piling up with tons of paperwork, empty water bottles and other miscellaneous items. I went on a cleaning spree before Lo came with my new computer! =)

I can't wait to get the speakers for headphone usage!

On the 24th of this month, Lo and I will be rearranging my room for the fifth time. Excited for change

=) Lo, me, Quynh and Alex at Candybar. The place was a little too warm because of the kitchen and candle lights. It was a new fun find for me. We played Candyland. I lost most of the time. Darn those pink cards! Their deserts were yummy and the portions were huge! We were all full after one drink and cake. Phew

Tiramisu! The cake was HUGE and filling! Lo liked this one =)

This was the yogurt cake. I really liked their matcha mousse. The yogurt was nice and cool. It was a good blend of flavors and a great contrast to warmness of the bar.

Pretty aren't they? =) Let's see.. they are mango, pomegranate, mango again and strawberry kiss. Both the pomegranate and strawberry were stronger than the mangoes.

I would love to come back again but wooza! The total bill came out to be $70 (including tips). Luckily we came during happy hour and I had two Groupons for this place! If Candybar had Monopoly, that would have made the night alot better!

This entire year since 2010- summer 2011 has been horrible! Only two days a week of seeing Lo. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE! Then, it was filled with full time school and more school (40 hours a week, all year). THEN.. this summer I contracted the worst food poisoning experience ever. I was so cold, in pain and so weak. Every time I drank water, I vomit. Even when I don't have anything inside me, I still vomit and it hurted more, so I forced myself to drink water. It was so bad that I couldn't sleep until the next afternoon when Lo asked for a later shift at work to stay with me.

I have no job because I am awaiting all these test dates and licensing to be finished so I could start applying. In result, I have no money and am in debt. That is why I haven't made efforts to call any friends yet. And to make it worse, I am currently having a fever. Went to bed last night shaking and very cold. Woke up and my entire being was weak, aching and my eyes hurt when I moved them. Strange. Hope I heal soon and things pick up!

Movie Recommendation: Hachiko: A Dog's Tale

I have never watched a movie nor read any books or heard any songs that moved me to uncontrolled tears until today. The movie Hachiko: A Dog's Tale (2009) was such a simple story with so much depth. Unlike most movies of today that centers its entire production around sex and violence, this movie was simply beautiful and it was the exact opposite of mainstream. Basically, the movie is about a man and his dog. He man suddenly dies and the dog continually waits at the same spot, at the same time, every day for the next 9 years of his life. Just watch the movie! It is so touching and so sweet.

Tears just fell nearing the end of the movie and didn't stop until the credidations. I watched this movie with my mother and even she couldn't help it. I never cried over The Notebook, Titianic, or any other sappy love movies. This one did it and totally deserve many praises!

This movie was based on a true story back in Japan in the 1920s. A man suddenly dies and the dog waits for him for 9 years at the same spot every day. Sadly, the man and his dog were only together for a year and the dog lived only for 10 years. For a majority of that dog's life, he was alone and waiting for his beloved owner. That is some insane amount of loyalty and love! If you would like to read more about it, here is the link to Wikipedia: Hachiko.

Chinese Zodiac: Snake Babies

Hey all! I have been so tired lately so my postings have long[er] gaps since my last. I really miss sleeping in! Most of my friends are snakes (earth). I think its suiting for them. I know two Earth snakes who are very good at seeing through people (Lo and Hang). I am sure the others do as well; those two just jump into my mind while I was typing this.

1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013

Snake babies are generally quiet, alert and lucky. They are also very intelligent and will do very well in school. Did I mention they are charming? No? Well, they are charming (and quite aware of this trait). When not getting their way, their tempers are a force. They may not be outgoing, but the friendships they do acquire will be long lasting. These babies can hold their own and know how to use people to their advantage.

Metal Snake (1941, 2001): This snake will strive for a life of wealth and power (with the means to get it because of his brilliance). He does not like competition and will want to be the top.

Water Snake (1953, 2013): Goals set and plans laid out, this snake will not be sidetracked from completing them. He is very smart and practical. Though he may appear calm, he does not forgive and forget.

Wood Snake (1965, 2025): Instead of pursuing, this snake's personality draws people in easily. He likes to be admired and will do his utmost to gain and keep it.

Fire Snake (1917, 1977): He is a leader with brains, looks and a charming personality. This snake is very passionate in his likes, dislikes, goals, interests and all others in his life. One slight downside is: its his way or the highway.

Earth Snake (1929, 1989): This snake is more grounded than the others and will have really good insight of people and situations. They will have many solid friendships as they are not self-centered as the other snakes.

Dream car

Yikes! I haven't done the a zodiac in a while. I apologize and will work on the next one soon. These past few weeks have been busy for me, including this week. I am currently interning for my phlebotomy class (my first day) and boy am I tired! When all is done, I really hope that I passed my exams so that I could start working! Birthdays and major holidays are coming up after the summer and I need cash for presents.

Kristine lent me her car for the weekend. Her trust in me is beyond words. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!! I haven't driven in a couple years after receiving my first (and only) ticket while driving Lo's car. It was a hefty fee that cost me over $600. This scared me away from driving since. There was no damage to the car. I was driving Lo to the court house for his jury duty and that area had crazy police watch! Following gps, I was not aware that the lane was for the freeway and quickly switched lanes. The cop pulled me over because I changed on a solid line. =( BOOOO

Anyway, I refound my love for driving! Kristine's car was really cool! You can elevate the seats and it runs so smoothly! Kristine went camping during the week. I wonder if she is back yet... She said she will come pick up her car when she gets back on Monday so I expected my parking space to be empty when I got back today. TADA! It is still here! Hope she had lots of fun!!!

This is also why I want to work; I want to buy my own car! Okay, not car but an SUV! I would love this--->

Though, this is wayyy too expensive and the cost to replace any part is too high for me atm.

I would be just as happy to have this! Toyota Highlander is more practical for me and it looks really nice! I can totally fit my future doberman in there with lots of extra space left! This is totally a family car.

Comparing the two pictures, the highlander looks way better.

The dangers of using free Wifi

Truth be told, I love free wifi! Thanks all for not locking it and allowing me to use it. I am truly grateful for the user under the name: networks who provided the wifi during my time in cosmetology school!

Now, free is great but there are hidden dangers. The provider of the unlocked wifi could see ALL the links and passwords (if used) during the duration of your connection to that network. Creepy? Scared? You should be if you were mindlessly going through your bank accounts, emails and/or facebooks while using the wifi. So the friendly unknown neighbor whose wifi you have been using at home could know more about you than you think. Its not to say that all individuals who allow access to free wifi know how to access that information, it could be that they didn't know how to lock their service (it happens). Then again, lets be safe and try to avoid using important links until you reach home and under a secured network. This may not be new information for some people, but I feel it is my duty to spread the information out in case. I just found out recently! OMG! >__< The networks dude may know my Haypi kingdom password!

If you have any questions pertaining to your network/wifi provider, give the company a call. Protecting yourself via web is just as crucial as locking your doors. You shouldn't be careless about either.

Happy 4th of July!!

Today we celebrate our freedom and independence from Great Britain (1776). It took quite a few civil wars to sort out the kinks to unite all 13 colonies. Then many other wars to unite, emancipate, claim and/or buy the rest of the 50 states. I thank all of the dead soldiers, moms, pops, brothers, sisters, cousins, friends, aunts and uncles, sons and daughters, horses, dogs, sheep, cows, etc, who helped bring America to what it is today. Sure, I may be Asian and my ancestors did not contribute to the cause of America's Independence, but I am proud and grateful nonetheless.
Happy Independence Day!
Happy Birthday Meuy!
Happy Birthday Jenny!
Happy Anniversary Lo!

Chinese Zodiac: Rabbit Babies

1927 1939 1951 1963 1975 1987 1999 2011

Rabbit babies are generally of sweet nature and have [better] sensitivity to emotions. They are able to pick up the moods of their parents or guardians and will adapt easily. Rabbit babies are cunning and can see holes through obstacles to get what they desire. These babies can amuse themselves with independent activities (games, books, movies, etc.) without need for company. When it comes to other people, they will cater to please, but also will find ways to better the situation for themselves. It is not to say they are selfish, they can be generous. The main advantage for these babies is the fact that they will be liked by many in their lifetime.

Metal Rabbit (1951, 2011): This rabbit many be stronger physically and mentally than the other rabbit elements. They are more responsible and smarter. Art will be his grounding and where he finds inspiration.

Water Rabbit (1963, 2023): With a great memory, outstanding intuition and sensitivity, this rabbit can be a force if needed. He will form many strong bonds of friendships. They may be prone to sadness but their friends should help cheer them up when needed.

Wood Rabbit (1915, 1975): Generous and receptive of others, this rabbit needs to be careful of knowing the limit because many may try to take advantage. In job situations, he will do fine in the long run and will have no trouble finding work.

Fire Rabbit (1927, 1987): This rabbit have charming and easy personality which makes them so likeable. He is also more tempered than the other elements. Keen to avoid confrontation, he will seek other means of solving the problem.

Earth Rabbit (1939, 1999): Less indulgent as the other rabbits, this rabbit is more rational with his day to day life. He is more independent and betters his own welfare first before others. However, this can be changed if he [wants to] put[s] the effort to.

CHEERS!!!! My first successful blood draw today!!!!!! =)) Along with being a cosmo student, I am also taking a phlebotomy class. I am really scared of needles and had very bad experiences with them, so each day I face my fear. Lucky for me, my classmates are really nice and are willing to give their arms out for practice. Through my wonderful genetics, my veins are hard to find so no one has practiced on me yet... though it did came very close today! Then again, genetics may have been the cause of my painful experiences! If my veins are easier to find, the process wouldn't be difficult and therefore, would not hurt.

Today's draw was on my instructor and after all was done, she said it didn't hurt! Yay! That is great! I do not want to hurt people. I do not want to give them bad hair cuts either. X___X I have 40 more hours left until I am done with my cosmo!!! Almost there!

Chinese Zodiac: Tiger babies

My dad is the Earth Tiger and it fits his personality to a T (pun intended)! ^__^

1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010

Tiger babies have alot of energy and will go from one activity to the next. They may bully less aggressive children so they should be taught at an early age not to. These babies makes friends easily. Their traits of happiness and generosity draws others to them. These babies do not like secrets and will want to be told the truth (they do not keep secrets well themselves). They are direct of their thoughts and opinions and it is advisable for parents of this tiger baby to teach boundaries early.

Water Tiger (1962, 2022)- This tiger is more perceptive and rational than the others. They are very good speakers. He will be less tempermental and may sometimes procrastinate.

Wood Tiger (1974, 1934)- Loves group work and will have many friends. That said, he will try to do the least amount of work (but will do his best of the tasks). This tiger will have many hobbies and interests.

Fire Tiger (1926, 1986)- This tiger is always ready for action and enjoys finding new adventures to partake. A leader and an optimist, he does not listen to criticisms.

Earth Tiger (1938, 1998)- Unlike the other tiger elements, this tiger is more realistic and responsible. Cautious is the right word for this tiger; he will weigh the possibilities and then proceed with tasks rather than hastily jumping into.

Recommendation: Eat Drink Man Woman

Eat Drink Man Woman is such a good movie! I find it so rich of the modern Chinese culture. There are the struggles between the old aged family values and newer ways of living. I can totally see myself in the daughters' shoes at times (okay, many times). My parents are very similar to the father in the movie!

The traditional ways of preparing Chinese meals are really cool. This has been lost, I now see, with all the fast foods (chow mien, fried rice, etc) in America. What I was given to eat does not compare by far to the richness of the culture. Then again, I have been raised with Vietnamese foods =).

Thank you Netflix for having it available for streaming!

Waxing: what to expect and safety precautions

This information is generally for all waxing services: facial (eyebrows, upper lip, chin), legs, arms, bikini, brazillian, back, chest, etc. The steps I have down will vary due for each service, but it comes down to the same thing: safety! I am from California and the laws here are more strict than other states (in the US), so I am basing my knowledge on this. Plus, it is always best to set a high standard on safely because waxing could become dangerous.

1. Be sure that your esthetician washes his/her hands with soap before the service! You never know what that person touched before you came. Washing hands reduces bacteria from spreading (that's why hospitals and restaurants requires it)! Also, take note if the drapings are new before you lie on the service bed.

2. Hairs longer than an inch should be trimmed, longer than 1 inch will be more painful during the procedure. Baby powder is then spread over the desired area to absorb oils so that the wax can have a good grasp.

3. There are risks of getting STDs, HIVs or AIDs because the heat of the wax keeps organisms alive until it finds a carrier. There is a very simply way to ensure that you are getting a safe wax job and that is to make sure your esthetician is not double dipping the wooden stick into the wax jar. A new stick should be used for each application of wax. There is an alternative: the wax could be collected into a smaller container that would be used solely for you. Then, the wooden stick is allowed to double dip.

4. Your esthetician should never wax the same area more than once! This will irritate the skin and may cause skin tear and infection. Unfortunately for me, my first waxing was this (during high school). The lady kept waxing at the same place and my skin had spots of blood as a result. I had no idea and thought this was normal. Any strays of remaining hair in that area should be tweezed out instead.

5. Wax strips should be placed and rubbed according to the pattern of hair growth. However, during the time of wax, the strips should be pulled opposite of growth direction. Immediately after a wax, slight pressure should be applied to that area then continue to the next area. This will help with the pain and the shock of the skin.

6. After all the waxing and tweezing is done, your estheitician could apply baby oil to remove remaining wax from your skin. Here is where it depends on your salon: using toner. Since the hairs have just been removed, the gaps remaining are wide open so it is best to use toner to close them. Toner also helps cools your skin. Baby oil could subsitiute, but it is not the same.

Now you are done!

I have seen nail technicians done wax services with no education on it. Infact, in this salon (no names), it was one nail technician's first time doing a bikini wax on a client and when she was done, she asked me if what she did was correct. I was disturbed by it. Aren't you? I believe this was the case for my first wax as well. So, ask the person who will service if they are licensed as an esthetician if you are getting your service at a nail salon to ensure that you are protected and that they know what to do.

If you feel the need to, take a pill or two (according to manufacturer's directions) of Tylenol one hour before your service. That is what I do and pain is minimal, for me anyway. For the ladies, do not go a week before and during your period; you will be more sensitive to pain. For all sexes, if you do decide to get a bikini or brazillian wax, it is courteous to wash up before you go.

If you are afraid of the pain, remember that the mind is amazing and can increase your awareness if you focus on it too much. Just try to relax and take deep breaths. Your esthetician could help take your mind off during the service by talking to you. Or, you could listen to music. =)

Happy Father's Day!

My Saturday consisted of lunch prepared by Lo! This was the second time he has ever made lunch for me. The first time was instant noodles (he can't cook).

1. tomatoes
2. lettuce
3. cha hue (specialty meat according to Joe ^_^ )
4. sliced jalapenos!!!
5. herbs+garlic mayo
6. bread
7. smoked turkey

One bottle of Palm juice and cup of milk tea to drink.
It was yummy! =) Jalapenos are the best thing ever! I still have some stuff left so will be packing lunch for tomorrow. The jalapeno jar is almost empty and we bought it new on Saturday!

For my family, it goes by the saying: "happy wife, happy life". So, we took mom + dad out to Westlake shopping center. It was their first time, but really for mom's benefit. She was excited and very happy! Lo and I ate alot... again! Wingstop (original hot and lemon pepper) and at Hong Kong Cafe (milk tea and curry fishballs). We then met up with my parents after separating for an hour (so they could explore for dinner) at Pho Huynh Hiep 3. Like said, she was very happy. Nothing beats Vietnamese food to her. Swear, we went to Brussels a few years ago and she dragged us to eat at this Vietnamese restaurant. Every country, city and town we go, she sees Viet food, that is where we will eat.

We then went to Home Depot together and she bought this cactus. I didn't notice it until we were walking to the register, that it looked like a penis... [Sorry kids, but the censoring of terminology for male parts is not my style.] Don't believe me? Look at picture! I tactfully told her since she was intending to give it to her friend as a gift. She really liked the flower on top and didn't even notice it until I pointed it out. She still bought it and aruged that it was not noticeable and that I was perverted. As we walked back to Lo's car, this man was looking at mom funny. She cracked up lots and had to agree with me (I win!). To finish my story, she's keeping the cactus and pointed out that another stem is budding out so it wouldn't look like this for long. Sure mom! whatever you say! ^____^

time flies when you are having fun

AWWWW!!!! Alex and Quynh will fly to Vietnam on Sunday to prepare for their beautiful wedding on July 10. I wish them a safe flight and an easy, stress-free planning! Miss them already!

I ate so much this week! Next week will be crunch time! It was Nancy's birthday dinner yesterday and ate out many times with Kristine and Lo. Mom also stuffed me during dinner time too. Today was worse. Quynh, Alex, Lo and I had lunch at Kome Buffet. We all enjoyed it lots. We then watched the movie: Super 8. I liked it, but during the entire movie I was thinking, "Thanks Alex, thanks alot for picking a movie that will give me gray hairs and wrinkles!" 0__0 It was a thriller omg. There wasn't any gruesome images, but the sounds and the tricks worked on me. Quynh was crying next to me! -------- Kidding! ^__^

After we parted ways, Lo and I went to Kristine's house to play board games. Lo won by sheer luck! I wanted to win.. It was really fun and time flew! We will definitely do this again. Board games are really, really fun! I don't think they have Monopoly so I'll bring mine if they want to play that. Monopoly is a great game! I have the Deluxe and the Hello Kitty versions. Thank you Kristine and Joe for dinner! FULL FULL FULL! Then dad stuffed me with a huge bowl of fruits when I got home. Tomorrow I will walk to Lo's house for exercise!

This was Andre after our last long walk from my home to Lo's. He kept smiling! Lo drove us back home.

I love how Ryan was smiling in the background while I was taking goofy pictures of Lo sleeping. He set such a great example so I followed him. *CHEESE*
CUTE CUTE CUTE!!!!! ----->>
I think she took this picture herself. She likes playing with my phone. IN FACT, her gaming skills are better than her mom's. For the game Cut the Rope, she passes each level faster and with more accuracy than her mom! Her lovely mother is none other than Kristine! LALALALALAAA
